Description

The University of West Bohemia (UWB) is young (founded in 1991) and open to international students. There are seven faculties: Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAV), Faculty of Economics (FEK), Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEL), Faculty of Education (FPE), Faculty of Law (FPR), Faculty of Philosophy and Arts (FF), and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FST). There is also Institute of Art and Design (UUD). The student population in 2006 reached 16,000.

In general, the language of instruction at all faculties is the Czech langage. However, there are also study programmes in English offered at FAV, FEL and FST.

Curriculum Overview

The University is following the implementation of the principles of the Declaration of Bologna, i.e. the students can study in three level study programmes for the following degrees: Bachelor's (Bc.) - Master's (Mgr., Ing.) - Doctor's (Ph.D.). The standard duration of the study programmes is 3 years - 2 years - 3 years.
The academic year begins around September 20th every year and consists of two semesters (winter, summer).

Accommodation is available for a limited number of UWB visitors at its own halls of residence with single/double study-bedrooms
