Description

The National Art School (NAS) is a unique fine arts institution. It offers students a comprehensive range of demanding courses, based on five studio disciplines and underpinned by a strong emphasis on drawing, art history and art theory throughout the three years of the present BFA programme. The teaching staff is made up of practising artists, art historians and theorists. The School is situated in the historic precinct of old Darlinghurst Gaol, in the heart of East Sydney and close to the Art Gallery of NSW and the commercial galleries of Paddington.

Curriculum Overview

The Bachelor of Fine Art degree is a 3 year full time course delivered over 36 weeks per year.

It is a studio based degree enabling students to elect areas of major interest after a broad based-study in the first year. First year students engage with all five studio disciplines as a prelude to individual major studies in second and third year. Disciplines offered at the National Art School include Ceramics, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture. Art History/Theory and Drawing remain core subjects that underpin the studio based philosophy of the National Art School.
