Description
Owing to its internationally recognized achievements in both teaching and research, the FU exerts a strong attraction on students from Germany and beyond.
Special Services
Affiliates of the FU have access to a rich menu of information, counseling, and other services. Even prior to the beginning of studies, students are invited to take problems and questions of a general nature to the FU's Center for Academic and Career Counseling. About 38,600 students annually receive assistance and counseling through the Center, whether in personal interviews, over the telephone, by email, fax or by chat.
Housing
You will not automatically receive a place in a dorm (Studentenwohnheim) upon admission. In Berlin, dorms are not run by the universities but for the most part by the Studentenwerk Berlin, a public body which takes care of the social needs of students such as housing, eating, working, psychological and social assistance. In addition to the dorms, the Studentenwerk also runs student cafeterias (Mensen), temporary student job placement services (for Freie Universit?t students: Heinzelm?nnchen), and a series of counseling services.
