Description
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece. It comprises of 7 Faculties, organized in 33 Schools, 5 single-School Faculties and 4 independent Schools. Its within-city campus covers some 23 hectares while there are educational and administrative units & facilities off-campus or even outside Thessaloniki. It was founded in 1925 by Prime Minister Alexandros Papanastasiou and during its long history new Schools were added in the already running Faculties. Like every Greek University it is a legal entity of public law with full self-governance, yet supervised for its operation, on the basis of relevant laws, and financed by the Ministry of National Education & Religion.
